In addition to his photography career, since 1989 Osamu Wataya has worked as an art director and undertaken the editorial direction of numerous photo books published by Hysteric Glamour and Rat Hole Gallery. In 2006, he was a recipient of the 22nd Higashikawa Special Photographer Award. Wataya's recent exhibitions include "Rumor/pond" (2008/ RAT HOLE GALLERY) and "Drowning in flame" (2010/Photographers' Gallery). His photo books include River Bed (1996/Hysteric Glamour), Engaru (1996/Taka Ishii Gallery), Renoir (1998/Hysteric Glamour), Hirugao (2004/Sokyusha), Rumor (2007/RAT HOLE GALLERY), and CHILDHOOD (2010/RAT HOLE GALLERY).
